History

The very first patient to be admitted to Nanavati Hospital was a man from the Harijan community he was treated free of cost, the first of a long line of less fortunate people who come to the hospital for their medical treatment.

This spirit is in harmony with the wishes of Mahatma Gandhi who was among the first to give his blessings to the Hospital when still in its gestation stage, and who had expressed his hope that the Institution would serve and aid people from every section of society.

Dr. Balabhai Nanavati Hospital has grown from a 50 - bed facility in a single building, to over 5 buildings housing 352 beds, and offers a plethora of services in practically every field of modern medicine and health care. Today over 100 consultants, ably supported by a large nursing, paramedical and technical staff, run its 45 departments.

Presently it is managed by Shri Priyam S. Jhaveri as Chairman and Shri Jairaj C. Thacker as President. Day to day administration is managed by Dr Ashok Hatolkar as Medical Superintendent & Chief Operating Officer.
